they may be different if one car has/doesn't have electronic stability program. I know that was an option on the 2000 ATW engine ECUs. Call a junk yard tomorrow to ask them if they are compatible. The dealer will most likely tell you no, even if they are. they told me the ecu from a 1.8T passat wouldn't work in my car but it did. Also there is no immobilizer for our year cars, so if the dealer tells you that too, don't buy it. put it in and see if it will work. you shouldn't hurt anything by trying it.

yes it was in a 99.5 car and it worked. I have the ecu on me but i dont have my car its at our shop. i was adjusting some things on my BT kit and took the car out for a drive and the ECU died. I bought a used one for 90 shipped from the saem year car as mine i need to know if its compatible so i can send it to unitronic to get re-chipped. he said it was and it worked fine on his car and its the same as mine but im just double checking
