the wipers work fine and im sure its nothing to do with them. it feels like car goes into safe mode and turbo doesnt work once i hit 80.

Is that thing right hand drive? That hose is definatly vacuum line, so you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Unfortunatly ive never seen vacuum run directly to the ecm. If you carefully spray brake clean around in the area the hose can reach you should be able to pinpoint where it plugs into.

yes right hand drive. im from uk and have a 1996 a4 1.9 TDi
ok then, found this this morning as i took it to a garage and luckily they had an a4 tdi in. first he couldnt find it then he looked at the one that he had in for repair and found that a air flow pipe was coming from the wiring which was taped in the black cloth/tape around the wiring. anyway checked on mine again and still couldnt find it. so ripped the tape off and hey presto it was there. connected it back on and attached a new clamp. the mechanic didnt even charge me.
after that took it for a test drive and it goes to 120 no problems. thanks everyone for your replies.
ill attach a pic so no one else will have further problems.
