Electric aux radiator fan not running.
ORIGINAL: Jestnomen
My aux fan does not kick on just because the AC is on. It comes on when my engine starts to get above the 210 mark.

Thanks, you established it, but Jestnomen disputes it.
well actually if you wanna get technical no he doesnt he states that it also comes on when his car reaches 210 degrees

My car's alternate fan does not kick on just because the AC is on. It only kicks on when I am sitting in traffic or on a really hot day. It kicks on after a hard drive over 210 degrees. I also have a different engine than most of you though. I don't know what bearing that has on this whole equation.
There is a 40amp fuse under the dash, you mentioned you were going to check this. This is for the coolant fan relay.
There is also a 5amp fuse that controls the secondary coolant speed control fan relay. This is next to (left) of the
40amp fuse.
There are two relays just above that spot
-on the far left it has a 370 marked on it this is for the secondary coolant speed control fan relay.
-next to that has a 373 marked on it this is for the coolant fan relay
All of these are just above the pedals. With any disconnected or bad the fan will not turn on when the A/C is turned on.
There is also a coolant fan control something or other, still trying to figure what and where it is.
Doose made a suggestion to check for voltage at the connector for the fan - this should be the easiest step. No voltage - bad motor.
From looking at the wiring diagram that seems to be the only things that would make the fan not work, other than the switch itself or faulty wiring. This is for when the A/C is turned on. Hope this of some help.
Will be removing the clutch driven fan my next TB change and installing a EFK. Im hooking it up to a switch that I already have wired up. I added a switch next to the rear fog switch to make it look somewhat stock, there is an empty space there without the ESP option. I fitted the black cover over the switch. Drilled a small hole and added a light pipe so I could see when the fan is on or off. Its all nice and flush, im quite happy with it.

40 amp fuse was blown.
With some trepidation I replaced the fuse and the fan started working at low speed. When it switched to high speed after being on for two minutes it blew the fuse again.
Thoughts? Fan isn't binding. Obviously something is drawing much more current then it should.
Am I in for a new fan?

Hey, I have an A6 with a similar problem. Could the fault be either one of the relays?
