Emergency towing lid/cover fell off/stolen....
Well I asked the guy at the dealership abt get it painted or getting the paint for it but he told me that I'll have to find some body shop to do it...he did give me the color code though. But I found this site www.paintscratch.com / https://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/place_order2.cgiand they have the color I need...I just dont know what I'm supposed to get -basecoat, clearcoat, primer or everything??? Also, do I need spray can, pen or bottle? Again, this is a very small part, less than a half of a palm size.
Thanks...
Thanks...
The best would be to get all three (primer, basecoat, clearcoat). I repaired some paint chips on my car using body shop catalyzed primer, catalyzed basecoat, and catalyzed clearcoat and here is what I did.
3 coats primer, sand primer, 3 basecoats, 4 clearcoats. After a couple of weeks you can do wet sanding, rubbing compound, finishing glaze on the piece to get it all smooth.
I don't think it would matter on such a small piece but you could use a flex agent in the primer and clearcoat to make it flexible and more chip resistant.

wow...I guess I'll have to do some research onhow this needs to be done...All those terms that u've used don't mean anything to me (wet sanding, rubbing compound, finishing glaze ) ...hehehe...What do you put first and stuff like that. Either way, thanks for your help...
2 useful links (I'm painting my lowers on Easter weekend and these links give a lot of info)

Just one more question...for this little cover, do I really need a 12oz spray or I could possibly use a pen or a paint bottle? Pen would be great because I could also use it to fix some minor scratches I have on my bumper which I wouldnt try with spray but if I need to use the spray for this little cover then I'll just get the spray can. Thx...
I believe spray gives a more uniform surface however paint bottle with a #2 artist paintbrush gives pretty good results too (this is how I fixed my paint chips). Make sure you build up slowly, don't put too thick layers.
Well... I don't know much about painting cars but samething happened to me not too long ago - the emergency towing lid poped out. But there was a string (or you may called a cable) attaching to the lid so it was just hangging on the bumper. All I have to was just push it back. My car is 2004 model so I guess the string/cable thing must be available to the newer models.
Thats exactly why I said that the cover might have been stolen even though I really doubt that. Either way, the new cover that I just bought does have that string so hopefully I won't be losing it again.
