Engine Revving When You Start Engine
We have a problem with our 2000 Audi A4 1.9 TDI. Everytime we start the car it revs just like you were putting the throttle down, only we don't touch the throttle. Any ideas what is causing this problem? I would appriciate any help.
Hi welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, most of the people here are US based, and the TDI isn't available here in the Audi, so epxerience with deisel engines is weak. Still someone may be able to help.
The general suggestion is to find someone with a VAGcom who can check for engine codes. There is a link at the top of the board to important audi information. Click on the VAGcom locator and see if anyone has one local that they may allow you to borrow.
Does the car do it both when initially starting it after overnight and if the engine is warmed up and you try to restart?

hi
Since it is Deisel, it controlled by the amount of fuel added to the engine,
not air, air remains the same,
Does it flare up to like 1200rpm or more ?
There do that sometime coz its a high comprssion engine
and there is not much A/F controll on start up

Fuel Issue, Black smoke on this engines its running to rich
Have it looked at, it might be time for an injector service and pump recalbaration
make sure you using good fuel as this are **** to injector nozzels getting dirty
if Primary and secondary filter are not changed on time
