i have a 98 audi a4 with a 6-disc cd changer in the back. recently, my cd player gives me a 'err1' messege and doesnt work. i really cant afford to replace the changer, i was wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be, or how i can fix this. thanks.

yea, the cd changer isnt stuck...itll come out, i even tried to put a lens cleaner in it, but it keeps giving me the err1 messege before even reading the cleaner. itll go through all the cds...act like its loading, then say err1...kinda frustrating, especially since i live in cincinnati oh, and the only decent radio station in town plays nothing but mariah carey and usher.

 

Had the same problem with mine.
I took out all my CDs, swore at the changer and hit it a few times.
Now it works perfectly, no joke!

 

Sounds like the changer has played it's last CD. Hey phatboxes are cheap now!

 

my cd has a similar problem. it refused loading. everytime i pushed the magzine in, it started to eject and kept ejecting for a while even after i took the cds out. i didn't get an error code on display but "no cd". i really prayed several days and got it to serve me again for couple of days. then it went on strike suddenly when i was listening. now i am praying. no luck yet.
i am thinking to disconnect the cd and clean it thoroughly. if it still doesn't work, i will link my ipod to the stereo.
