FM reception problem
I have a 2003 A4 Avant with a Symphony II radio/CD player. For the past month the FM reception has become poor with the radio struggling to stay tuned to national radio stations. I have heard that there is a diversity box / aerial amplifier that may be at fault but I do not know where it is located in the car. If someone knows and can tell me how to get access to it that would be a great help. I have checked the back of the radio unit and the aerial is plugged in. What's the smaller co-ax connector for in the back of the radio?

RE: FM reception problem
If your rear window is tinted more than 35% youll have reception problems because the antenna is integrated into the rear window.

RE: FM reception problem
The rear windows are not tinted - have thought about it but I think I will get the radio reception working first.

Hmmm dont know about the smaller coax cable behind your HU?? I think later yr symphony radio's have pre amp inputs, but that doesnt sound like thats what your talking about.

RE: FM reception problem
The small co-ax cable question was more for interest - don't think its the cause of the problem. Just thought it was odd that there were 2 co-ax connectors - one is clearly the aerial and the second this SMA/SMB co-ax connector.

RE: FM reception problem
Theres a trim panel on the rear of the headliner at the top of the windsheild. Pull that off and the diverssity box is under that.

RE: FM reception problem
This may be an obvious question (but sometimes it's the obvious that is overlooked): Did you (or someone) inadvertently change the Sensitivity setting from DX to Local? Push the Menu button and view the setting. Use the right knob to change the setting if necessary.

RE: FM reception problem
I have had the same problem for months now but get the 2 radio stations I listen to so I never bothered to fix it. I've heard it can be the diversity box, which is in the location described a couple posts up. Mine happens to be cracked so that very well could be it. The other possibility I've heard is an FM antenna booster behind the HU. Supposedly that will go after some time. I'd like a definitive answer since I know whichever I pick first won't be the culprit, that's typically my luck but I'll probably replace the diversity box first. If you solve it, post what you did please.

RE: FM reception problem
As I am not very confident removing trim from the car I have decided to get it looked at by my local Audi garage. However, I will get details of what they find and post back.
