RE: Fuel fill up problem
Yikes this is an old thread... yeah it is prolly the valve in my car too... it was really bad today actually, but I usually just manouver the nozzle to a position described above... and then it doesn't give me any trouble. Damn these cars!

RE: Fuel fill up problem
your filler neck is shot, this happens on trucks all the time, you just need to push the thing up from the inside from time to time which may not be possible, but just turn the nozzle upside down and it should fill fine, dont ask me why but it works.

RE: Fuel fill up problem
I know this is kinda an old thread but I found it doing a search.
Sorry about bringing back an older thread.
This happened to me for the second time today. The first time was a year ago or so.
This is stupid but here is how I resolved it this time:
Take the pump nozzle out (I put it on the ground)
Put the cap back tight on the filler.
Started up the car and ran it for 5 to 10 seconds, then shut it off.
Remove cap and fill as normal. No problems.
Goofy, huh? Kinda like re-booting your computer.
I think there's a German guy who laughs everytime we have one of these car-farts!

Fuel Fill up issue
I am having the same issue with my 2011 A3. I have to hold the handle so it barely trickles in. I have been told there is a solenoid that opens a vent flap and that sometimes fails. In the old TDI's there is a switch just inside the fill port that allows you to manually open the vent. This doesn't exist in the newer TDI's. I was hoping there may be some better explanations in these forums. The dealers are useless.
