gas fill problem erractic

help!! have a 2000 2.8 and sometimes even though the tank is low it will not take any gas.

nozzle just keeps shutting off---even if you move it around or further out. other times it is no problem.

this happens even with the same station and same pump. tried other stations same results.

charcoal canister was replaced by audi and still no difference. no further help from audi even contacted national and no help and treated very badly.

does any one have a solution. thanks bill

Yeah that same thing has happened to me and what they just told me to do was to move it around and make sure that it was all the way in and if that didnt work to go back and they would replace the fill tube so jus try a few things first before u go out and replace it, I got mine to work by just moving it around more.

This happens if the purge valve for the gas tank in not functioning.

i thought the purge valve was located in the engine compartment so i do not see how that would affect the gas tank being filled?????????

The purpose is to allow gas fumes and air displaced by the incoming gasoline to be captured. If this is plugged, pressure and fumes increase in the gas tank and the gas pump senses this as a signal that the gas tank is full and shuts off.

I've noticed this problem on mine as well. Last time I filled up I had to hold the pump handle at a high angle the whole time or it would shut off. Kinda sucks not being able to set it and go do something else while it pumps. Maybe I'll have the dealer look at it. Glad to know I'm not the only one :)
