Default Getting door fixed - BS or what???

Ok so about a month ago my friends dad backed into the passenger front door of my A4. I wasn't too mad because I know he is a good guy and he offered to pay to fix it. Anyway, i have been to busy to take it in for an estimate. But today I had my mom take it to a local trust body shop for a quote. She calls and and says that it is going to be $1400!!!! WTF... They told her that they need to get a whole new door. Ok, it wasn't damaged that bad at all, there was a decent sized dent and it scratched the paint and stuff, but it wasn't that bad I don't think. Was this guy just trying to give my mom the run around or something? Because that seems a bit too much...

100% the guy was trying to sucker more $$ from your mom.. You take it to another shop and get an estimate it shouldn't cost more than about $500 to fix but then again w/ out pics u can't judge it

I would say thats BS. I had the same thing happen to me.. well not quite.. I had a dent and had my mom go to get a quote and and the guy said 1600 dollars.

I think its because they see a women so they think they can screw her over cause she doesnt know any better..

I have a 02 1.8t and i f..ed up my driverside rear door and quarter panel...on a b6 the doors are messed up if you get in a tad accident..and it gets deep enough you will need a new door(shell)..a new door shell w/o internals, window or panel runs about $400 at cost..also you have to add in the cost of paint and labor..i had a hook up at bmw collision so i got my lowers painted..all that fixed put on door blades and lip spoiler for $1000

BS but without pictures it's hard to judge... There comes a point where a dent gets too big and can't just be popped out and worked with... Now is yours to that point... Only pictures and an honest autobody place can tell... Good luck finding the second one

that's bullshit. unless the acutal frame of the door is messed up. if it's just the pannel it shouldn't be more than 500

Why don't you pick up a new door skin from someone that is parting out their car. Just find someone with a B5 or whatever you have that has the same color car. Any car with that platform (B5, B6, B7) should have the same exact door that you have. You can prob get the skin pretty cheap (compared to $500) and not need to paint it.
