I just picked up a 99 1.8tQ 5sp and I have some questions. The previous owner had a mishap with a drainage ditch or something and cracked the oilpan, oil came out and long story short, it is making noises (hard to describe- def something wrong though) now I didn't get the valve cover off yet to look around but he said he took it to a dealership and said it was just the head making noises, not the bottom end. But it is hard to describe where the noise is coming from because I don't want to run it for a long time while its making these noises. So if it were just the head, should I just replace it or just go ahead and find a whole engine? Also to add fuel to the fire, there wasn't an air filter in there, with alot of debris in the air box.

 

Will a aeb from a passat work if it came with an auto?

 

that engine will not work as one is transverse and the other is longitudinal

 

they are both in the bay the same way.. nevermind though the junkyard sold it anyway. Now i gotta find an engine.
