Good Price for 2002 A4 3.0, 6spd, loaded??
I know, I know... I did a search, but couldn't find the exact info I was looking for. And it's my first post, so be nice. hahah
Okay, I'm looking at a 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro, 6-spd, sport pkg, etc. It's at a dealership and is Audi Certified to 100,000 miles. They were asking $22,995 for it. I told them I've found many un-certified A4 3.0 Quattros with very similar options for $20-$21. They immediately came back with $21,500 as their lowest price. So, I'd be paying about $1,000 for the certification. Is it worth it? That puts it under the book average of Edmunds, KBB and NADA. Should I bother try to haggle them lower? If so, how low? I was thinking to offer them $22 OTD - meaning the actual price of the car would be around $21 even. Thoughts?
Again, sorry if this is a re-post.

it depends how much peace of mind is worth to you. i just spent 3k to add a 3 year warranty to my car...my warranty is up in about a month.
3k could be a whole helluva lot of mods, but i love my car the way it is and i just wanted it to be under warranty for as long as i keep it. i'll sell it shortly after my warranty is up most likely.
it really depends on your intentions... do you wanna mod the shyte out of your car, or are you happy with stock, and just wanna make sure your *** is financially covered for the lifetime you own your car? but naturally, if you are getting your car to mod it you will be voiding the warranty. if you wanna mod, don't waste money any extra money buying your car from a dealership.
bottom line: do i think the extra $1000 is worth it? hell yes. if you are only paying an extra $1000 on top at a dealership for the certification, you're getting a good deal.

What is the mileage at now? I mean if it was at 95K and certified till 100K that'd be no good! More info!
I know it obviously SHOULD have very low mileage for that price... but still, it is an important piece of info for us to help you.

good point...details...
keep in mind however, the certification has a monetary value. i believe, that any car with less than 50k can be certified through any audi dealership. There are different levels of coverage you can purchase from audi. the woman at my dealership basically told me it really only makes sense to buy the "premium coverage" because although you can get your car under warranty for less money with some "lower tier" coverage from audi, you get so much more coverage for not so much more money with the highest coverage.
Currently, the 2 year (goldplus audi calls it) extra coverage is $2200 and the 3 year which i got is $2700, which after tax is basically $3000. This 3 year plan keeps its buyer covered for 3 years or 36k miles past the 4 year 50k original factory warranty (minus wear and tear items which are only covered under original factory warranty and plus a 100 dollar deductible...this deductible is actually waived if the warranty is purchased from the dealer you bought the car from, which unfortunately i did not do). When i bought the warranty, the woman told me audi is about to hike up these prices very soon.
So, if you can get the car with the 100k coverage, it's basically worth $3000. if you are getting it for $1000, assuming you're satisfied with the price of the dealership car in comparison to a non-dealership car which doesn't have this extended coverage...well you do the math.

The car has 52,000 miles and the dealer says it is "Audi Certified until 100,000 miles (or sometime in 2008, can't remember exact date). From what you guys are saying it sounds like a good deal. No mods are planned at all. I had an Integra and RSX before this and put CAI on both. I doubt I'll do anything to this Audi - just not my scene.
Thanks for your responses - going to look at it on Saturday. Wish me luck.

I talked to a friend of the family today (owns 8 dealerships, not Audi). He looked it up in his black book. A buddy of his who owns an Audi dealership confirmed the black book... Dealer wholesale is $17,800. This is what they should be able to get the car for at auction or whatever. Dealer retail is $20,700, but a "fair" deal is 5% above wholesale, in this case approx $19k. Add tax, tags, ttl, fees, a price of $20.5K OTD is a GOOD deal. Thought anybody else shopping for a used car might want to know... These black book values that banks and dealers use seem to be much lower than the stuff readily available online - Edmunds, NADA, KBB, etc.
I picked up my 02 A4 3.0 6spd, every option for the year with 70,000 miles and a four year unlimited mile warranty for less than 16k. But i really searched for long time to find a great deal.
16K for the car or 16K out the door? Certified? No doubt you saved some serious $$ by going with slightly higher mileage. Either way, sounds like you found a great deal.
I was at a dealer the other day looking at certified A4 3.0 (loaded) with 52,000 miles. I couldn't get them below 21.8K OTD. Wouldn't budge any farther so I walked. While I was shopping, I had another dealer on the phone saying, "I don't have the car you want right now, but I will find you one with all the options you want, with less mileage for 20.5K OTD. It may take a week. It may take 3 months. But, if you can be patient, walk out of there and I'll call you when I have a car for you."
So, for now I'll wait. I think saving $1500 and getting a car with 15K less miles is worth being patient.
