H&R Springs

I know that typically when you put lowering springs on your car, you need to get new shocks also. I am not the type to "slam" my car. I have a 2001 A4 2.8Q non-sport and I want to put H&R sport springs on the car. The springs drop the front 1.25" or 31mm and the rear is dropped 1.00" or 25 mm. Do I need to replace the shocks with these springs? I guess if I have to spend another $450 on bilstein shocks I have to, but I would prefer to get away with making the ride a little lower, and little stiffer, and thats about it. Any advice would be great.

you can leave the stock shocks for now but you will have to replace them within 6-12 months depending on how you drive, mine lasted 8 months with 2" sprins on a non sport, might as well do it while the springs are off.

I would do it now, or else you'll be paying labor twice, which is usually at least $300.

yeah it's more simple to do them both at the same time..

Cool. Thanks guys. What a pain in the as*. Where is the best place to buy the H&R/Bilstein combo? I am expecting to pay around $650 for both, but if someone knows a cheaper place, let me know. Once again, thanks for the advice.

You can get the combo from awe-tuning.com for about that price. They are one of my favorite suppliers.

if the money wasnt an issue, would more people go for the h&r/bilstein combo or coilovers?

what exactly is the difference between coilovers and regular shocks and springs?

Coilovers are adjustable and the others aren’t
