does anyone know where the relay for the headlight washer pump is? if there even is one? i used a voltometer on the wires leading to the harness with the car on and off, but got no electrical response. any advice, info? PLEASE! by the way, its a 1998.5 a4 1.8t.

 

Are you checking the wiring with the wiper stalk pressed and the headlights on? Otherwise it won't energize the circuit.

 

checked with the headlight off, but engine on? wipers off also.

 

Well how do you expect voltage to be present if you don't have the headlights on and the wiper stalk pressed? Have someone sit in the cabin and hold the wiper stalk while you are by the drivers side wheel. Check to see if you can hear the pump kick on. Also I think I remember the relay being a large brown one under the dash. Hold your hand on it and see if you can feel it click when you hold the wiper stalk.

All of this must be done with the car turned on/headlights on.

 

Most likely it is the pump, which fails with notorious frequency on these cars.

As Jest noted, the pump will not activate unless the headlights are on, and you have someone hold the Washer switch
