Default Help! In between a rock and a hard place...

Alright, I need anyone and everyone's advice on something. I have about $2500 to spend right now. I have three things that I want to do to my car right away, but I'm struggling deciding what I want to do with my budget. I want to get 19" black wheels, and the ones I want run around $2000 with tires. The only problem with that is that black wheels on a black B6 without the lowers painted looks terrible. The quotes I have been getting to get my lowers painted and get them done right have been around $800-$1000. So, I really have two choices, because I want to do cosmetic stuff to my car before I do performance mods, that's just the way I am.

The choices are:
1) Rims and tires
or
2) H&R Coilover suspension and painted lowers

Please help me out! Just for the record, I have a 2002 1.8T, sport package, black.

Well, I'd rather not do them myself for one reason. It being that I am terrible with any type of paint in any way. The reason for not doing the K04, i don't really know...but I'm going for looks first, then the engine mods.

2000$ for 19's with tires sounds cheap...!!! Do the wheels and lower it (gonna cost you more) - then paint the lowers later - it'll still look sweet! Also, the prices your quoting for painting sound terribly expensive - mine (with both bumpers fixed and re-painted were 500$). Check Jhawk's thread - he found a place nationwide that does it for much less...

$800 to paint the lowers, that ridiculous!. You can get the whole car + lowers for less than that. Its really not as difficult as you may think, you don't need any real painting skills to paint your lowers, check the DIY section.

Sweet guys, thanks for your input. I knew that $800+ was way too high, I'll just keep looking for places that will give me a correct price and good quality. If I get the guts, I may try to do them myself...the only reason that would really stop me is that I can't figure out the color on my car. It's "black" but in certain lights it looks kind of grey. I think I'm gonna get the rims tonight or tomorrow.

how faded is the paint? If it's faded quite a bit, you're better off getting it painted professionally since they'll be better able to color match the paint even if it's faded.

The color code is in your trunk, on a plate inside the spare wheel well.

I wouldn't say that the paint is faded, because I just debadged my car a couple days ago and there was no color difference in the paint where the letters were and the rest of the trunk. I just thought that it was audi's special black or something. I'm going to go out and check and see what code it is.

Alright, just went out and checked and then looked it up and I have LZ9W which is the Ebony Pearl

Anyone have any experience in painting their lowers this color themselves?
