Hesitant to go into 2nd gear
I recently bought a 2001 a4 1.8t, i didn't notice it when i first got it but now that I am driving it more, it seems to be hesitant at times to go into second gear, almost like it is catching on something when it goes into second, somebody else I was talking to with the same car said they were having a similar problem, is this maybe something audi specific, or is this a sign of something else?
I'm not saying it's a problem because it's hard to tell from your description. If you just bought the car very recently they usually come with say a 30 day warranty or so and you could take it back for inspection.
I was just wondering if that was normal for an audi since someone else I know said they were having the same problem, it is just a lot different from my honda, my honda i can slam into second, with my audi it is almost like I have to pause going from first to second because it is catching on something, normal driving you don't really notice it that much, its just more annoying than anything and makes the car slower than what it is.
no its not common to have probs going in to second but going in to first the car will be tough untill under a certain speed. i think its a safety feature so u dont shift in to first going like 50 or something like that.
I can usually bypass the first gear 'safety' by double clutching the gear, but I only really do that if my transmission isn't warmed up so I don't gring my synchros. Can you get it into gear if you move from 1st to 2nd and lean your hand into the second gear gate and let it slip itself into gear, or do you have to wait a moment with the car in nuetral before you start moving it into gear?
As far as leaning it into the gate and letting it slide into gear itself, its a no go unless the car is completely stopped, then its fine. When it is moving, by the time it wants to slide it into gear it is already all the way in gear. My sister actually said that she had a similar problem with her eclipse and said there was some sort of wire or something that needed adjusted but it was fine then, she doesn't remember exactly what was done though to fix it, has anyone ever heard of anything like that?
