Default HID Dipping and CEL code P0601

Okay gang...2 issues..... this is on a 2006 A4 2.0T w/52000 miles.

1st issue is the Left HID Dipping came on the screen and the light didn't ignite. Someone on here told me that it meant bulb was out (I'm new to the bi-xenon stuff). So, ordered and replaced the bulb. Same issue...no light and same warning message. Then, to determine if it was a bulb issue or a car issue...I swapped the Right bulb that was working into the Left side...and the bulb I bought to replace in the right side. Again, Right side came on, left side remained off and warning came up on the screen. One other note, when I pulled the original left bulb...it was broken at the base...I didn't break it when I pulled it out..it was already broken. Is this the point when I should give up and head to the dealer or is there something else someone can suggest.

2nd issue is the CEL light and the EPC light came on a few days ago. I took it to my local mechanic...he was not able to pinpoint the problem and suggested that I go to the dealer as it had something to do with the computer...P0601 was the code. I did a search on here and saw a post dealing with APR mods and then getting P0601. I also read one post that said it was under recall??? The dealer would flash the computer? Anyone know for sure about this?

Thanks! I have enjoyed reading all the forum info and advice

You need the ballast or igniter for the left side, its what ignites the bulb. I hope you saved that old bulb because those suckers aren't cheap and they hardly ever go bad. Plus you need to buy a VAG COM to erase the fault codes in the headlamp module on a B7, or it won't go away.

The second fault code is an internal check sum error, in other words your ECM is toast. You need a new one. You can try to erase it but it will keep coming back.
