I have two friends with B6 A4s and they both did the hid conversions. Both of them now have the light sensor go on in the dash. Is there any way that you can avoid this problem when doing the hid conversion.

I did the HID conversion and had no problems with the light sensor. I did know the problem existed before i installed it and had a Plan B ready. You can build a relay circuit with some resisters and some relays to trick the headlights into thinking the factory bulbs are there.
