Horn isn't working!

I just snagged a 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro w/14,800 miles on it. The horn doesn't work. When I press the horn I hear a relay click but no horn sound. I checked the fuse for the horn and it looks good. Everything else I've tried (lights, wipers, etc.) seem to work fine.

When I press the panic button on the remote I get a beeping sound from the rear of the car, but no horn honk.

Where is the horn physically located? I looked under the hood and behind the grille but couldn't find it.

I'll probably have to take the car back (I got a warranty for it) but I would like to check for a loose wire, no voltage to the horn, etc.

TIA,
KJP

Just FYI, that beeping sound is all you will hear when you press the panic button on your car. You will not hear the horn honk... If the alarm is activated because someone breaks your window out or something, it will start honking, and the beeping noise will sound as well.

You just bought the car, so just take it back for an hour, and have them look at it. If you got the "Audi Certified" warranty, they should have checked for that in their 300+ point inspection. Make sure you slap the inspector across the face for not checking that... [:@]

I second that slap in the face, but also, I think this is for the B5s, but may also be true for the b6, the ground wire on the horn is usually the problem... try to search for an FSM online, I found my FSM online but also went and got a Haynes manual....

you need to take your bumper off and there is one horn on each side, maybe it came unclipped

I didn't think about it at the time, but if they missed that your horn was not working in the inspection, what else might they have missed? I would take the car back, and have them re-do their inspection completly. Might save you some time in the shop in the long run... ;)

RE: Horn isn't working!

Just an update, I took the car in today to get the horn fixed. I'll be without it for a couple days so they can order the parts. Prior to this I found the horns, underneath the passenger side headlight. I pulled the upper one and tested it with an ohmmeter... and it was dead. I also tested to make sure the circuit was functioning (hooked a voltmeter up and honked the horn) and I got voltage.

Are there any running theories as to why both horns would fail? Are they prone to this? One I could see, but both weren't working.
