Default how the hell to install an amp

i know i know ive been searching forever, i have a b5 a4 2000 with the symphony, now there is not a subwoofer in the trunk or anything but i have my two kickers and a 1000watt amp with a cap all wired up everythings good and such..my problem is i need exact directions on wiring the remote turn on cable for the amp ive spent hours out there and hours searching i cant find anything, also for the rca cables how do i do that since there is not a low level freq coming out of anywhere for a sub? anyone know how to do this or has done it before without the stock sub in the trunk..

I re did the entire system in my car recently. wow did it suck took more than a day. I bought alpine type x speakers , alpine head unit, alpine type x sub, and 2 seperate amps 1 for speakers and 1 for sub. My friend who has experience with car stereo helped me with it but let me just say 1 thing, it is not easy. I have a 2000 a4 1.8t Q with the symphony too and when i asked a professional about doing the install they told me the whole car had to be rewired because the head unit sucks and has a different amount of ohms than the speakers and each speaker has its own little mini amp inside it. We rewired my entire car... at one point we had the back seats out... everything in the trunk out and all of the inner door panels off. Take this from my experience and not as an insult, you may want someone who has experience with car stereo helping you out. However I dont think you need anything special if your just installing a sub and an amp for the sub. I only had to do so much work because I bought speakers too.

dont take me wrong i know alot about car audio and work at a automotive shop, but the thing is i just dont get the damn audi audio system, why does it have to be this complicated. when i had my wrx before this it took me 45 minutes to throw in a new headunit and 4 speakers and a half hour to wire up and install the subs. Anyone who can tell me exactly how to wire this up to the stick symphony please help!!!!

it's not hard. you just have to understand how these things work. they're a lot like bmw stereos...

head unit is just the reciever. amp is in the trunk. meaning... you already have a preamp out coming from the deck to the trunk. - need line level output for amps - check

all speakers in a bose system are 2 ohms. so, i fyou want to change all your speakers, you'll have to run a different amp, or lose a lot of power, b/c you'll only draw aprox. 50% of the wattage w/ 4ohm speakers (and most are 8ohms anyways). running a new amp also requires running new speaker wires. takes patience, but also not an incredible feat.

amp's require a power cable. tap the battery. nothing new. a lot of people go through the grommit where the fues box is on the driver side. peep audiworld tech articles for help... - amp power - check.

amps require remote turn on. since audi already has it's own amp, you can borrow the remote turnon signal, thus, you have your remote wire - remote wire - check.

amps require ground. ground it to the trunk. - amp gorund - check.

so we have pre-amp out, remote power, actual power, ground, and speaker wire. what's left? nothing. it's not hard, it just is a little different than the jap import cars.

just read your initial post/question closer. basically, tap the amp that is bolted on the driver side ofthe trunk. you can basically cut off the ends of one RCA, and tap into the pre-amp send (from headunit), and plug the rca's into your amp. someone else from this board gave me that advice. for the remote, also tap from the amp. check audiworld tech or search wiring diagram for the plug, as idon't recall it off the top of my head.

i have the concert stereo, so mine obviously is a little different than yours. I'm not overly familiar w/ the symphony stereo, only the concert. Here's what you should do insted then...

Buy a high-low level converter. your amp may even have one built in. Tap the speaker level outputs going into the speakers, and then that to the converter. If you use an external converter, run the rca from the converter to the amp. done. and done.

as for the remote wire. you just need to tap into any power cable in the car that turns on when you turn on the car. this could be ANYTHING. it just needs a voltage running through it, and it works as a switch to the amp. i've tapped things from power antenna to the remote wire on the back of headunits. simplest obviously would be back of your deck, and running the wire, as your car doesn't have a power antenna. key word here is SWITCHED power. you can check the fuse box, and see f there are any other items that are switched which are closer to the trunk.

btw. if you're this lost, drive it into a car audio install place. most places will be glad to give you pointers, and will only charge you for the work they do for you. Simply ask, if they don't know it off hand, they can look it up for you.
