how many bearings?
You've probably already started by now, but make sure that you get the right size wheel bearing. The '96 A4 has two different sizes depending on the vin#. I replaced all 4 bearings in my '96 A4, and the first time around I ended up getting the wrong ones for the front. I can't find the website that clearly explains it all right now, but I'm sure you can find the right one with a litte bit of searching.
i havent started yet but thanks for the info. i checked out ecs tuning and they have 2 different front wheel bearing kits for my car, i just emailed them asking which one is the one for my car so hopefully they get back to me soon so i can get my car on the road again. thanks for the good info!
Also, if you're pressing the bearing on yourself, be very careful. Its really easy with those bearings to pop the inside ring out of the seal when your pressing the knuckle and the hub together (or at least I think thats the two pieces that press together on the bearing).
