How many miles till they run bad?
 

I am looking to buy a used Audi A4 and was wondering how many miles they usually last till they start falling apart? At what milage do they run bad?

Well I am looking to buy one of these two audis. An Audi A4 2001 1.8 turbo quattro with 69k miles for $11k and then a Audi A4 2001 2.8 quattro with 67k miles on it for $11k and was wondering if this is to high of milage to buy them on?

This is the most important thing to look at when purchasing an Audi: Proper Maintenance

Not treated well, these cars can give you problems early and tax you wallet. You get a nice, well maintained, not beaten (aka owned by 18 year old) A4, she should run well for you without excessive repairs. What is the number on this, who knows, 150k - 160k? There are a bunch of guys that flirt with 200k, but I assure you there are far fewer Audis at 200k than Hondas.

I don't know your price range, but get a well maintained car with 60k - 90k and it will last you a few years until you are ready to upgrade to your next car. Both of the cars you list are fine on mileage, but both are coming up on needing a timing belt. Factor this into your bargaining, because it is about a $1000 job. Do a search and you will see a TON of posts about cars in this year range and things to look for when buying.

Isay get the 1.8t that is if you plan on moding it i got mine with 99k and runs fine havent had any problems so far and i drive hard

If its maintained it will easily go 200,000. brrrr man still has his which he is sadly selling his only problem is that his TIP tranny is going bad i believe.If maintained it will go forever just seafom and as the miles go up change the oil more because oil sludge will gey YAAA.

ive seen many A4 going for upwards of 200k+ miles and still selling for 4k-6k. so oyu tell me, i have 155k on mine and have easily hit triple digit speeds without any problem and still been able to drive it as daily driver and just recently done some autocrossing. just rememberthough replace old or worn parts, the most i ever spent on my car was 1000 for new control arms and rear wheel bearings, after that the car runs great. (knock on wood)

103k on mine, rolling fine. other than a desire to redo the timing belt (no faith in the people that did it), i'm planning on keeping this thru 5yrs of graduate school and the next 2 after to pay off student loans. course, i'll be 2 miles from campus, as opposed to now. after that, on to my bentley (maybe mtm tuning will talk to me then. i'm less than 3miles from them, won't return any attempt @contact. they suck)
