You can bring in whatever you want and they will put it in for $12 - Doesn't sound smart on their part to me - you'd think they would have a bunch of liability law suits aginst them. Does the $12 cover oil and filter disposal fee?

Yea, I used to work for Jiffy Lube....They don't care what oil or filter you use....they will only pay for your car to be fixed if it is something that their employees did. If you use a different oil or filter they are no longer liable for the oil and filter. They can tell if the oil is theirs because there is a small additive put in all of the penzoil oil they use to identify it when tested, and the oil filters they use can only be bought by Jiffy lube, since Shell owns them both. So basically, if you bring your own products, they are less responsible for your car.

even if you live in an apartment you can do it yourself. go to dieselgeek and getan oil extractor, you can do a full change by yourself with no lifts, jacks or having to take the belly pan off, justlike a civilized gentleman. (i dont have one yet, but i want one.)

I wouldnt trust an oil extractor to get all the oil out, or any metal flakes there might be.

good point, there is no substitute for using the drain plug, regardless of how 'civilized' amarketing agency tries to make it seem.

i know what its like to live in an apartment complex - i oncehad a nosy neighbor call management on me for changing wiper blades!! sometimes you can get away with it as long as there are no jacks or stands involved, or nosy neighbors with nothing better to do.

Throw the jacks under the car and throw one tire in the trunk - tell them you had a flat. Thats what I've done when I was doing some work on the control arms. Havn't had to use the excuse yet. The real reason I don't do my own is the collecting of the oil and the disposal. anybody know of a container that would work good for this kind of situation?

Jiffylube is 60 bux for Mobil 1, after all taxes etc. BUT you never know what filter they are using. I only go there if its to cold outside to do it myself.

If you go to Wal-Mart (yes I know they suck ***) you can get a 5-Quart Bottle of Mobil 1 for 23 bucks.
Then go get a GOOD filter somewhere else, like a Mobil 1 Filter(10 bucks) or a NAPA Gold(8 bucks).
Dont buy a POS Bosch or FRAM, thye dont have anti-drainback valves. thats very bad for turbos.

Interesting device. I always love the idea of something making the DIY job easier. But what do you do about the oil filter?
