Hydraulic Tensioner
OK so finally got and idea of what is making my engine tick. It is the hydraulic tensioner in my timing system that is messed up. So my mechanic is giving my an idea of $600 to $800 to fix it but the thing is it doesn't need to be fixed, the engine work fine without it operational, or so he says. I have notice that i get poorer gas milage since it has broken. Also it is embarrasing to drive around and tick when ever im at a light or a stop sign.
My question should I go ahead and shell out the $600 to get it fix? Is it an easy part to fix without consulting my mechanic? Is this a common problem? |
RE: Hydraulic Tensioner
Man, fix it.
else you risk destroying your engine. ? From your post, you are talking about the tensioner for the t-belt, right? This is known to fail depending on the year of your vehicle, just git-er-done dude and save your engine. |
RE: Hydraulic Tensioner
hmmm so your mechanic thinks it the hydraulic tensioner??? now what makes them think that???? if it were off it would throw the valve timing out then a CEL would come on, if the idle is erratic and low the engine will stall so look to the throttle body and idle control valve perhaps it only needs cleaning out

absolutely no way your mechanic is giving too little information and no fault codes to back him up |
RE: Hydraulic Tensioner
When my tensioner went bad , I had a CEL related to cam timing.

RE: Hydraulic Tensioner
Ya I got a Cam Sensor Fault CEL.
Sorry should have said that in the first place. |
RE: Hydraulic Tensioner
YEAH I'M GOING TO PAY 580 TO GET MINE FIXED BECAUSE I FEEL YOU ON THE TICKING MAN IT IS
