I might get a new AUDI
I am thinking of selling my current Audi which is 1996 A4 2.8Q
And buying a 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro
Car has 140,000 Miles on it.
Only problem is the Starte needs to get replaced so does ignition switch. (which is covered under recall)
I guess what I am asking is what's like span on 97's? Any feedback would help out.

The life span of a 1997, in terms of when it'll die, is one year more than that of a 1996, surely?
What's the mileage of your present car??? If it's anywhere close to 140,000.... go for something even newer than a 1997, eh?

I think you should get something with 12,000 miles on it!
Or get a certified or off-lease model.
Anything that needs a new starter may well need something more costly soon!

Cool. I guess I would probably try to find a lower-mileage one, but for 3K you'll have a good deal if nothing else just quits.
Depending on how well it has been maintained, these engines can last a while. The highest I've heard of is 240xxx on a 2.8. I don't know why it wouldn't last forever if you take care of it. The transmission is burly, except for certain synchros, and the bottom end is stout.
