Hey everyone...let me apologize in advance for being the biggest idiot in here.

I just bought my first car, a 2001 a4 1.8T quattro sport. I am in LOVE with this car, I've wanted it since i was 13, but I'm not much of a car person so I just got the prettiest color because the particulars didnt really matter to me.

butttt, I have no idea how to use the tiptronic (I don't know how to drive stick at all). I feel so dumb to ask this question but if theres anyone that could take a few minutes to reply and explain it, or give me a website where i could look, i would appreciate it so much!

also...my car seems really loud when i'm driving...is it because of the turbo or should i be worried?

1. u shouldnt be worried about the "loud" sound. how many miles r on it? and is it still under warranty?
2. Tiptronic is fun for an automatic car, i drive them all the time and its much more enjoyable. (i valet cars) Mines a manual but anyways.....use tiptronic....where do i start....okay when u put it in drive u can slide the shifter into tiptornic mod. Here u do all the shifting but u dont have a clutch and u dont have to worry about stailing. Okay when u start off and the rpms get high u wanna shift up a gear, but doing that u take the shifter and shift it froward to upshift from 1st to 2nd. Then to down shift pull the shifter down (itll be easier when u try it then to explain it) Thats basically how u do it. and when u dont wanna use it anymore slide the shifter into drive to all out automatic....wow i need a beer after that explaination

thanks for the explanation..haha and at the risk of sounding even dumber and making you have another beer...uh, i dont know when to shift, between what rpm's should i upshift and between what should i downshift? if that makes sense..

 

a good starting shifting point is 5900 rpms the rev limiter for your car is 6800 rpm. once you get good at shifting you can hold it till 6300 rpms this will give you some power

haha after a couple beers.....i say turned down ur music in ur car and listen to the rpms and see when it switches gear and get a feel for when u upshift and downshift u kno? its sounds alot harder then it actually is. and if u upshift ealry or down shift ealry ull kno and learn, the car will bogg down or the car iwll be close to redline. just get a feel for the ride. hope that helped u out

 

There is no specific shifting point. It depends on if you are driving economically or performance.

 

I noticed my car shift at around 3K when auto. Is that mean I should shift at that RPM? Can I blow the engine if I shift at 6.5K?
