i think i have too much oil
i changed mt oil and when i checked the dipstick it said i had too much, like the oil went on to the orange part of the dipstick, but i know i put 5.5 quarts, i still have the 5.5 empty bottles and drain pan full of the old oil
Jeebus... my car takes like 4.5 quarts (2000 1.8T) -- and I'm using the higher capacity filters.
Be sure to drain it, if you are checking on level ground, and have started the car to fill the filter... too much oil will, among other things, damage your catalytic converter.
Hmm, well, "will" damage should read "may" damage.

thats wierd...i have a 98 A4....i changed filters everything correctly...put in 5.5 quarts like the manual says...and it wasnt enough...i checked the oil level about a week after doing it (only driving the car a very very like 30 second trip in between...cuz its not registered yet) and it was low....i had to put in the other.5 quart and now it seems fine....no leak or aynthin though
What engine and what TRANSMISSION?
Is the first time you changed the oil in your car yourself?
Is your car a tiptronic? If so, common noob mistake is to drain the transmission rather than the oil pan.
My 1.8T takes about 4.5 quarts with the larger filter.
Get a siphon and pull out oil from the dipstick. If you have to pull out 2 or more quarts and if you have a tiptronic, you have to wonder.....
