Default Inner C/V joint & boot install

2001 1.8T Quattro Manual

Does anybody haev a write-up on the inner, or outer for that matter, c/v joint and boot install. I did a search but came up with no install write-up.

Also is there a good place to purchase these from. I saw that ECStuning has the rear inners but I didn't see the fronts.

Any Info would be helpful, just bought the car two months ago and they were\are leaking (well the pass front and drivers rear were\are leaking transmission fluid. I one of the boots has a tear in it.

Thanks,
Pete

bentframe - Thank you very much. I think that that write up covers the C/V joint pretty well. It focuses on the boot but gets me close(r). Seems pretty easy compared to what I was thinking. The qoute I got was pretty pricey from the stealership. I will have to look into doing this my self since I really should do all 4 while I'm under there. Maybe the control arms as well.

Also, if anybody knows where I can get the joint and boots cheap please let me know.

Thanks,
Pete

Oh yeah one other question:

How would I know if the C/V joints are actually bad? I know that they are leaking and need a new gasket/seal but how would one know if they were actually bad. I think since they will be off I will replace them anyway but how do you tell?

Thanks Again,
Pete

ecstuning sells a boot kit, or you can buy the complete axle....don't know if they sell just the joints though...you'd have to have a mechanic tell you if your joints are bad...it may just be the boots. they'll make a loud clicking sound when the wheel is turned and the joints have a load on them...
