Default intake question

so i was just curious about gettin a new intake for my b5 1.8tq. I looked around on the forums and saw that cold airs are almost pointless unless you have an fmic i believe but i could have misinturpreted what i read. What i was questioning was a couple things, one was whether just buying like a k&n cone filter would do me good and also if removing the airbox would be better aswell. Help?

the stock airbox in your car is quite efficient just put a k&n filter in it and you'll be good to go

the k&n filter that fits the airbox not a cone

No, he's right. For this car, unless you are big turbo, stock airbox is your best bet, with a higher flow filter like k&n.

Putting a cone in transforms your efficient cold air intake to a hot air intake, although a lot of people do it for the increase in sound, you are not going to gain any power with the stock turbo.
You're best off following our advice, and getting a chip, dv, and exhaust, and a drop in panel filter. That will get you the most gains.
Search, its been covered a gazillion times.

^ +1

Although I love my CAI from Evoms because it makes an awesome sound, I regret paying $280 for not much.

Take our advice and put a k&n filter in there and leave it at that.

I just read on evoms.com that it would help without asking Audiforums when I should have and I lost $280

So always ask someone first

I'm wondering why you have the pc-16 file if you don't have a fmic?

I was wondering the same thing.. I am also wondering how he could not have found by searching that the stock airbox is about as efficient as it gets. Its mentioned in almost every intake thread.

a cia doesnt do a damn thing. the product is negligible in every way except for a sound for 300 bucks
