intake sensor, miss fire = engine light ? help
ok i brought my 98 audi a4 5 spd with 120k to the shop this afternoon at 2 b/c the air bag light was on and the check engine light was one . he hooked up the computer and got rid of the air bag light .. it was triggered by the driver side- side air bag somehow i dont know why . band then he found that piston 2 was miss fireing and there was something going on with the air intake sensor. he guessed it was just condensation from the gas since it had been sitting for way to long before i bought it. so he cleared both the codes on the computer, and i put my 2nd full take of new gas in and drove the 120 miles home and then again my light came on after i was home about to go to the store quick? any ideas ? could it be the same thing? and if it is just condensation will the light go off if the condensation goes away? or if it is a miss fireing piston will i have to fix that somehow? he said he cleared it and it should be good to go but i'm not sure and i dont want to go all the way back to the place where i bought it ( 120 miles ) to get it looked at again and b/c the garage is a crap hole . yet i dont want to have the local audi dealer charge me 80 bucks for an hours of work . what should i do ? anything would be alot of help

This is not condensation. Possibilities are fould spark plug, or more likely a bad ignition module, esp if it is in cylinder 2.
Run a search on cyl 2 misfire. Seems that there was a bad batch with poor soldering that caused misfire on cyl 2. GET THE CODE NUMBERS Did they give you a thirty day warranty or anything on the car? |

I had a similar problem recently with #2 missfire, for me it was a bad fuel injctor. Here is what I would do. 1. Switch #2 and #3 spark plug wire then vag-com, clear code and retest. 2. Switch #2 and #3 spark plug and vag-com, clear code and retest. 3. Switch #2 and #3 fuel injector and vag-com, clear code and retest. If by doing this vag-com shows #3 missfire you will know what the problem is.

most of the time just clearing the codes is just a tempereary fix the problem is still there get the codes scanned and get the problem fixed

ok i done have a vag-com that i can just use which kinda sucks .... so if i do put in a new ignitor or somthing that fixes the problem with the light go off ? or will i have to reset the codes again with a vag-com ? ...
if i put in a new ignitor and fuel injector and that fixs the problem ... will the engine light go off ? or will it have to be cleared by a vag-com? they gave me a warrently but its for only major problems and this isnt one i was told ... dumb .. |

You can unhook the battery to clear the codes, but you will need to know your code for the radio. |

yeah i got the car for 6grand ... so under blue book by a large amount of money ...
what exactly does miss firing piston mean? is it a big deal that should be fixed like that day or can i still drive the car for a week before i get it fixed ? ... and is it pretty easy to put in a new ignitor and fuel injector ? .... thanks ... and how do you know which piston is number 2 on the engine ? ... i'm kind of new but i want to learn alot about this car .... i love it and i am want to be able to do my own work on the car |
