Default Keyless entry

Well, I just got my car back from the shop from getting painted, and I noticed that my remote for my alarm/keyless entry doesn't work. Could it be that they disabled it (is there a switch or something I should check)? My remote before it went in the shop was acting up anyway, I was thinking of getting a new one but how much do they cost at the dealership? I got a 97 A4 1.8t...

dealership is gona charge you well over a hundred bucks for a new key. some charge up to 250. just get a blank on ebay and get it cut, which some VW dealerships do for free, and there's a simple fix here

I don't have the fob switchblade key, I have a key and a seperate remote for the alarm/keyless entry, I don't think the 97 came with it... If I buy just the remote of ebay can I program it myself?
