Default Koni lower before rims ?

1998 2.8 quattro B5 V6 <<<<< the car referd to as "it"

my dad thinks you need to get smaller tires or something before i lower my B5 with basic Koni coilovers ?

someone please rationalise this, so that i can lower it with the stock rims and tires. : /

drop it. It looks like mine now and thats not good. Off roader from the factory. oh and if he askes. when you get bigger rims the outside diameter of the tire should stay the same so it wouldn't matter.

Get the suspension first. I have the koni coilovers as well and i did suspension first. Definately do suspension first, you do not need lower profile tires to work, thats not a factor at all. Like flyboy said, when you get bigger wheels you get lower profile tires to keep the outside diameter of the tire the same as it was. When i put the coilovers on i had about a half a finger gap up front and my wheels were pretty much tucked and i didn't rub at all. I may have been lucky but i didn't care i just put the coilovers on and messed with the height later because i ended up getting wheels a week later.

If you're getting coilovers, you don't need to get lower profile tires. You can adjust them to the height you want. If you get new wheels that are a larger diameter, then you need to get tires that are correspondingly smaller. ie you have 205/55-16s, if you got 17s in the same width, you would buy 205/45-17 tires.
So no, you don't need new tires to run the car lower. It's high from the factory, you have plenty of clearance to lower it over stock wheels.
