Default Lack of automatic interior lighting?

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and to the Audi world but have been enjoying both a lot already. I have a 2006 A4 and have only two minor issues:
[ol][*]The interior is way too dark when I open the door to get in at night. No overhead lights turn on, there is no lighting around the ignition, etc. There is some dim lighting in the footwell, but I don't really need to watch my feet when I get in at night, and it's not bright enough to light up the rest of the driver area. When I took the car for its first scheduled maintenance, the service folks said all expected lighting worked fine. Is this expected? Is something not working properly? Am I just going nuts or blind? I've done a bunch of online searching but don't see any similar complaints.[*]The navigation systemseems to beextremely dumb. This is the fourth such animal I've owned (previous ones I had were in a couple of Acuras and one BMW) and it's by far the worst. It appears to be doing a shortest path algorithm, not a fastest route one (weighting highways more), so it comes up with ridiculous routes whenever there's say, a side road that parallels an interstate. Am I the only one seeing this?[/ol]
I admittedly haven't investigated the second issue much and there may be a setting I've missed or a DVD update I need, so my main question for now is about the lighting.

Thanks!

As far as your interior lighting, the switch overhead should have 3 positions: on, door, and off. (like most cars do) if the switch is in the middle, the lights should come on when you open the door. As far as the lighting, I'm not sure.
