Title says it. Im looking to by an A4 or S4 with around 70K miles. I was wondering if there is much of a difference in the 2.8 and 1.8t besides the obvious and that the 1.8t is more of a modders car? If i can find a S4 for around 10K would you jump on it? What are somethings to look at with these cars when they are used and apporaching 100,000 miles or more?

 

The cars are the same, the engines are different. The V6 is faster stock, the turbo is faster modded. Only differences are little things like 1.8T gets fake leather and like a silver trim and the V6 gets real leather and wood trim, etc.

$10k for S4 sounds like a good price. I wouldn't jump on anything without knowing what you are getting into. A $10k S4 (depending on year / mileage) may have way more things that need to be repaired than a $14k S4, making the more expensive car a better deal.

You don't specify a year that you are looking for. Different models have different issues.
96-01 is a B5, 02-05 is B6 I think, and 06-07 are B7. Pick a platform.
In any case, this question is asked everyday. Use the search feature, and you will find answers to a lot of questions and lots of advice on picking up a used A4. Once you do some research and know the basics you can ask some more specific questions.
