Low Beams dont work, but high beems do! Help Please!

Okay, so here is the deal.

When it started to get cold out about a month ago, my low beams would not turn on and my high beams would only work if I "Held the high beams on" Meaning pulling the toggle switch towards the steeringwheel and then I would have the hold them on while i drove. After About 3minutes the low beams would kick on and everything was fine. High beams would not work if toggle switch was pushed forward so that the highbeams would stay on by themselves until the low beams worked from holding the high beams on manually.

Now no matter how long I hold the High beams on the low beams will not work.

Is there something I can rip apart in the steeringwheel to figure out what is wrong? Although I am German, i grew up with a Camaro and know nothing of these cars!! haha

Any help would be much appriciated.

Scott

Gonna tell us what year A4 it is? Is it Zenon or Halogen bulbs?

Sorry, It is a 1996 A4 quattro with Halogen Bulbs. I checked all the fuses and the bulbs are good.

Check for power at the bulbs with the switch on, if there is 12V's then the bulbs are bad. You might wanna try using a high beam in the low beam socket if it will fit.
The B5 model doesn't have many problems with the headlights switch or wiring.

The DIY may or may not help you. I have exactly the same problem and it still occurs in cold temperatures.. Maybe my switch is just that bad. Good luck!

Im having this problem too and I did the DIY.... still didnt work..... but you said sometimes if you left them on eventuallly they would turn on? ill have to try that. I really dont want to by a $200 switch thing. If anyone gets more on this let me know thanks. (is is only a cold weather thing?

i would check the ground make sure that its getting a good connection another way to test is to run a wire from the ground on the battery to the light ground if it still doesn't work then u may be looking at a bad harness

maybe the line in the front is causing the problem.
