Low Shifting RPMS ????
HEY EVERYONE !!!
Brand new to this site and brand new Audi A4 1.8 owner. I have a 98' Audi A4 1.8t front wheel drive that i just bought from a dealership. The car is Automatic/Tiptronic and I am having a problem. Here is the problem, when I am in Automatic Drive Mode, The car likes to shift gears early on in the RPM's. It shifts at about 2,500 RPM through 2nd and 3rd unless i gun the car and it shoots up. Is there anything that i can do to fix this problem of mine ??? I have a brand new timing belt, etc... is it possible to change the timing of when an automatic switches gears....as in....setting it to a certain RPM ??? Please let me know guys.....
I appreciate all the help I can get !!! I traded in my Acura GSR integra for this thing, i sure hope it is worth it.... !!!

To my knowledge there is nothing "common" that can do what you are trying. Shifting early is what an automatic does./ Saves fuel, saves the tranny, keeps down noise, save on emissions... You woul dhave to change the mapping of the gears on the TCU. No ide how that can be done.
If you wanna be sporty, use tip mode - thats what its for! I never use auto mode on my tip, always use tip mode.

With my automatic/ tip A4. If i only used tiptronic for the rest of the time i have this car, will it hurt the car at all, since i am not familiar with tiptronic ???
the prevous driver was a conservitive driver i guess, the automatic tranny selects from 200 different driving styles settings dependin on how use the tip, i say its will change depending on how u drive.
According to the owner's manual the tip actually continually updates its choice of programs..."The selection of the most suitable shift program is a continuous automatic process. Regardless of this, the driver can also make the transmission switch to a sporty program by pressing down the gas pedal quickly." p.61
