Default MBC on stock ecu.

98 A4 Quattro 5spd. AEB.
I have done alot of research about the MBCs on stock motors/ecus. Understanding a chip has 3 functions.
Raise boost, fuel curv, Bump timing. Im going to gradually bump my boost up using a mbc. Im using a buddys Wide band o2 and software. And a real time VAG diag screen. My 3 funtctions of the chip will be. MBC to raise boost (safly). Wide band for a/f monitor. Heres the thing tho. Alot of people have been stumped by timing. I have drivin the car with a real time VAG. The ECU actuily changes the timing in real time. Its not set at a solid degree. I have seen it bump from 11 deg to 17 deg tdc under load. As for fuel. The ECU is set to run 8psi. I will be leaning out a little ( depending on boost.). I have seen Under load with a/c on reaching a boost lvl of 10psi. with an A/F ratio of 12.4. That tells me I should at least safly handel 10psi.I will be bumping 1psi pre cycle test. Givin time for ECU to adjust. My goal is to SAFLY reach 12-13psi.

Pics and write up coming soon.

from what i understand you can use an ebc and run 14psi without any spiking issues (or any other mods), but anything over 14 and you're gonna end up in limp mode

why wouldn't you just get a chip tho?

well, anyways, good luck!

i ran 16 psi, but often went into soft limp mode due to a boost spike.

+1 lazer. AEB dbc. No limp. I dont think ill risk 16psi unless I have the fuel for it. (Will know shortly).
To be honest, I would rather get a chip. But funds/timing dont permit. Like I sayd in earlyer posts. Wife 3 mos pregnant. So im trying to get all my tuning jollys out for now. At least my A4 is a 4 door! WooT!
