Misfire???
hi everyone,
i Have a 98 audi a4 1.8t chipped with GAIC and 710N DV. i dont know if this is important or not but I bought it used and the idiot before took out the resonator and put on a ricer exhaust.
One day went down to the garage to take off and started the car and it was rumbling, misfires. Cylinder 1 to be exact. it settled to normal idle after 10 seconds. i turned it off and started again and it was fine. but the engine light did come on. next day same thing cold start and misfire for 10 seconds. i live in canada, and have no vag-com, and no car knowledge but i always do try to fix things from everyones instructions here.
I took it the mechanic he found a few things misfires, coilpack cylinder 1 was wet for some reason, and boost leak at the intercooler i think he said. he regapped the plugs for better boost, car drove at its best when i left.
Next task i did was install a boost gauge, it was on the cheap side. did it through center vent following instructions here, tapped into the intake manifold by the bumper not the fuel pressure line. it was fine. parked the car for a week. then i drove it hard one day, first gear was fine. second gear was the problem when under load say 65% of throttle it would hesitate,misfire/detonate you can say at 2700, 2900,3200, 3400 and then the rest of the rpm are strong, same thing in third. no codes are coming up but it happens every time under load. anyone have an idea.

hey no codes coming up. Just realized car has full exhaust. i thought it was just a ricer muffler which i was planning on getting rid of when its rusted out. and well it rusted out and i would say at the point where its 50% still connected. its 3 inch piping all the way with no resonator.
u think the messed up muffler and no resonator with the changed gapping on the plugs could have caused this problem? maybe its running rich and backfire??
also noticed that its only happening 75% of the time. meaning 1 out of 4 hard runs the car runs fine. and theres no trend.
