MTM Chip and Accessories
Just bought myself a 2002 A4 1.8T QUATTRO!!! Pretty excited about it. So I was looking into purchasing the stage 1 chip upgrade from MTM, and eventually adding components to reach stage 3. Has anyone had any experience with MTM and their products, and using their chips? Driveability? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

What chip should I get?
This is probably one of the most commonly asked and flamed questions on AF. GIAC, APR, and REVO are each going to give you very similar hp/tq gains, so to say one company is better than the other is pointless. Each company usually has dyno results posted on their website, but you have no way of knowing what conditions the dyno was taken under and each company usually overestimates its gains for marketing purposes. So what are the differences between them? The only difference between the companies is where that added power is applied in the RPM range. GIAC tends to give the power more in the low RPM’s whereas APR, and REVO tend to have more power in the higher RPM. As a general rule, if you have a B5 go with GIAC, if you have a B6 go with REVO, and if you have a B7 go with either APR or REVO. Why I say this is because this is the general consensus of the people on AF. People who have a B5 say that GIAC is the most fun to drive and it feels like the power is more available when you stomp down on the gas. People who have B6’s and B7’s usually say the same thing for REVO or APR. But power alone should not be the deciding factor in your decision. You also have to look at where each dealer is located and what their service is like. A good chip is useless without after sales support. You might want to upgrade the chip in the future to a more aggressive file so if a certain company offers discounts when upgrading you would want to pick that one. GIAC is one company in particular that will give you a discount on the proper software needed if you upgrade from your k03 turbo to a k04 turbo.
now granted i have a b5 and that says giac is best or most aggresive but i have apr tunning and it works great for me...... but i would love to run a b5 awm(motor) qm w/giac and see who is faster........
but i would say if you wanna go apr 1+ get the stage 1+
Stage I+ software, along with larger fuel injectors, provides even more horsepower and torque, raising the output to 235 and 275, respectively. While not an extreme upgrade, the Stage I+ gives the A4 a bit more performance without sacrificing drivability or smoothness. For optimal results, our cat-back exhaust system is highly recommended with the use of the Stage I+ system.
APR chips are available in an octane specific version for the octane of gasoline that you typically run in your car. The power that the chip makes also depends on which ECU is in your vehicle. The A4 1.8T ECU can be upgraded with either the use of a soldered in EMCS module, or DirectPort Programming. For more information on DirectPort Programming, please see the DirectPort page. For more information on the ECU upgrade, please see the charts below.
All APR chip upgrades use encryption, which serve several purposes. Mainly, it keeps prying eyes out of our software and prevents lesser companies from copying the chip and degrading the product. Also, all APR software is undetectable to a dealers VAG diagnostic tool.

that will give you all the info you need.
lived less than 3 miles from MTM. tried multiple times to contact them re
erformance upgrades for my a4. never got a response. figured their busy w/bentley, ferrari and such cause and all i have is a lowly a4. went w/giac which was installed by suncoast audi, the local audi dealer. while it was there, the service rep told me his car had mtm cause he knew the owners. told him my story, he said "yeah, the sons took over couple years back and they're real slack compared to the old man. not really trying to build the business anymore" so i would give mtm a big NOT THEM just from lack of customer service.
