My OCTANE Theory
for the extra 8 bucks a fill, and depending on how much you fill up.... i dont think its worth it. I mean , I fill up atleast once a week, and thats 32$/month. for what? an extra 5hp.. at the crank?
Higher octane realy doesn't give you performance directly. The higher boost you run the more chance of detonation or pinging you have with crappy gas. When you run higher octane gas this lets you run higher boost with out that risk. This is the only reason for running higher octane. So if you run 110 octane in a car that is set at stock boost it is a waste of money because it is not realy benefiting your performance.
get an 87 octane chip & save the $$$$ [:-]
just got 93? Is there a huuge diff. between 91 & 93 settings?
I'm seriously pondering going w/ just the 91... as stated.. I dont think the gains
are that substantial?
let us know how the 93 compares on ur butt dyno Jeff...

You shouldnt have got the 93 program in my personal opinion , but since you already did thats ok.
I would run 91 daily, 93 when you feel frisky, and 100 when you need the power, or you are at the track.
You should get the K04 turbo from APR.. mmmm

We're discussing different program mapping that maximizes each octane rating by APR.
And regarding the increase in performance, doesn't APR state the following:
91 octane: 232HP / 273lbft
93 octane: 241HP / 292lbft
100 octane: 265+ HP / 320+ lbft
That's enough of a difference for me to run the 93 program as often as possible.
Also, I've only ran the 93 program 1 time so far, but when I did - I got better gas mileage than I've been getting so far with the 91 program.
Trust me, if I had the option I'd use 100 octane fuel at every fill-up, but $100 each time is not something that interests me.
As for the "added headache" I have a gas station around the corner from me that sells 100, 91, 89, and 87 so it's not a big deal.
Fill up 12 gallons, pull forward and fill up 4 gallons. End of story.
I didnt realize that b7 increase per octane rating were that different... i mean only 9 hp but 19 ft. pnds of torque...
Still it would be a hassle for me, to do it every fillup.
Like I said though, get the k04.. maybe they make a race file too.

EVO,
I with Nam on this one. It is a hassle for me to find 100 octane gas at the beach. I have noticed an increase in performance when I use the 93 program. 91 program is like using the air conditioner on the 93 program, if that increase makes sense. It's not a huge gain, but definitely noticeable. I tend to only use the 93 program when I'm at the GTG!
Need the extra oooomph for any RS4 that might be stopping by. LOL
Try it and let me know what the difference is like for you. I've been wanting to put some good pump gas in the car and compare it to the quart of booster I use to see if the gains are the same myself.
Cheers!

That is exactly the reason why I want a 0-60 tool on the cheap.
I want to rate the speed and times compared between:
1. Straight 91 program.
2. 93 program w/ octane boost.
3. 93 program with 91 octane & 100 octane mix.
Whichever gives the best results, that's what I'll be running until the lease is up.

Dude, your car is LEASED... don't bother putting 100 in there. In the end it isn't your car anyway so who cares?
I bet your 91 will do the best, but again, the 0-60 with those will probably be not that much.
