Need help with 30V to 12V swap (no Spark)
Audi Newbe needs help here.
I am helping a friend with a 30V to 12V swap. I know that's backwards, but we had a low mileage 12V and couldn't find a good 30V. The car is a 1998, and like I said, it was a 30V. The engine we put in is a 12V and we got the wiring harness and ECU from the donor vehicle. The 12V is out of a Audi A4 B5, but don't know what year. The ECU is a Hitachi p/n 8D0 906 266B. We are getting no spark when cranking. The engine speed sensor on the bell housing is from the 30V, and there is no place to plug it in on the 12V engine wiring harness.
On the original 30V engine harness, there is a gray connector with Blue, Gray, and Black wires that the engine speed sensor plugs into. We are wondering, if the 12V does not use this sensor, and just relies on the camshaft position sensor, or did the connector and wiring somehow get pulled out of the harness. What else could cause a no spark condition. There is no immobilizer light flashing on the cluster, and we have checked the fuses.
There are also two connectors in the air box area that don't have a place to plug in to. That is not the primary problem, but is also a concern. What are they supposed to plug in to.
Any suggestions?

Crank position sensor
OK,
i found out that the crank position sensor is located on the 12 Valve engine, and not on the bell housing of the 30 Valve. I haven't been back over to the car, but I'm sure that connector was plugged in. All the plugs on the harness were still hooked up to the 12V when we got it from the wrecking yard. What are common ignition failure causes?
Anybody?

Difference between 12V and 30V
Reading on another forum, I found out that the crank position sensor (engine speed sensor) is mounted on the 12V engine, and on the bell housing on the 30V. So, it had an engine speed sensor after all, and it was plugged in. Also, the two connectors i asked about----they are for the Power Output Stage, or Ignition Control Module. It is mounted on the air box on the 12V. Didn't get the air box with the engine, hence the two connectors in the air box area with nothing to plug into. No spark without it. The Power Output Stage on the 30V is on the coil pack assembly. Found a used one on EBAY, and then this thing should fire up.
