Default Nervous new A4 owner (Chipping question)

Hey Guys,

THis is my first post, and I have a feeling there are a million posts about this stuff. I did do a searcha nd couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. When reading this, please keep in mind I have MINIMAL knowledge of cars, so talk to me like I'm an idiot.

In January 2005, I did the premiere purchase and got a new 2005 A4 (Older body style, not the new style recently released). I got tiptronic (already regretting that one), and the 1.8T Quattro engine. I've looked a lot at chips and really would like to get one, however, I'm VERY concerned about htis voiding my warranty. I've been told it's possible to not only get a chip, but to get a replacement part that the chip goes in so that when your car goes into the shop, the original settings will be in effect, and there is no chance of my warranty getting voided.

Can anyone give me any input on whether that is true, if so how difficult would it be to be done? I'm hoping to get from about 170 HP to about 210-230 HP. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

AND

most chip companies have a reflash option where u can hide the performance chip but it usually cost extra though
but nuthin is really fool proof casue the mechanics if they dig hard enough will find it but they usually dont though
look in the REVO, GIAC, and APR

yeah you could just buy a spare ECU that you swap in when it goes in to the shop. but those can get expensive, depends on how bad you dont wanna risk voiding your warrenty

nastys idea is not always good idea sometimes when the mechanics sees that your bolts on your ecu have been drilled becasue you had to remove the ecu your probly automaticly assed out

just get the extra remote that GIAC and REVO offers that gives you the ability to switch from stock to perforance

I’m in the same situation as you..just got a new A4 1.8T. After a LOT of research, I’ve decided to go with the APR stage I chip. For our years, it’s just a matter of the APR dealers flashing the chip that’s already on board, no parts need to be changed. Using the cruise control stalk, you can turn the thing on and off with an access code that you created. That way no dealer or weenie can drive it, or even detect it’s in the chip mode. All this for ~500 bucks. The APR stage I will get you ~ 200-210 hp depending on what octane setting you sign up for. From what I read, APR has a real good reputation and good customer service, along with the closest dealer, 2bennett in Davis, Ca.
Getting mine done this Thursday.
Good luck.

You dont need a 'spare' ECU. I have an 03 APR chipped and my dealer is clueless.
Just make you get the option to switch it back to stock. You will enjoy the car much more chipped
