Default New Car, oil question.

Hey im new to the forums just bought my car yesterday an a4 1.8 quattro. i was talking to the seller and he said that the oil hadnt been changed for over 10k miles!, because he thought while using synthetic you can do that. Well he brought it to his mechanic and the oil had gotten clogged in the screen and hoses and such, so the mechanic changed the oil screen and several of the oil hoses. will this be a major problem? anything specifically i should check out in the engine to make sure everything is ok? and yes i have already used the search button lol

Thanks alot,

Alex Betz

Check the receipts, and have the car checked out by an independent mechanic.

If they cleaned the sludge, dropped the pan and changed the oil pump or screen, then it should be OK, if the oil pressure is good.

The oil pump was changed, is their any way to tell if damage has already been done to the engine? that would cause it to break down in the future?

i just got back from the mechanic and he hates audis to begin with and started off by saying someone couldnt pay me to take an audi. Then started saying things that could go wrong because of the screens are easily blocked in the 1.8 turbos and such. so basically jsut wondering if their is any way to see if the damage has already been done to the engine.

take it to an audi mechanic, not a mechanic that hates audis. even a veteran mechanic can be very knowledgeable about other cars, and not know a thing about audis.

yeah a mechanic that "hates" Audi.. is a domestic car lover. Nothing wrong with that, they just dont understand the fine tuning of the machine.

im kind of stumped as to what to do now. The car was at audi recently and the pump was changed and they said the car was fine. But then i bring it to the guy who hates audis and he said its not a good investment. what should i do, the car seemed really nice and was a fair price. Should i bring it to another mechanic, or a different audi dealership for another checkup i have one local so its not a problem at all. im only 17 and this is my first car and i want it to be an audi, and because of the 2nd mechanic my parents now think they are all going to break down because of this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

usually a mercedes or bmw mechanic will also work on audis....but an audi specialist is def in your best interest...

So... the guy told you he skimped on oil changes, and you still bought the car? Hmmm. Oil changes are the BASE of good maintenance... if he didnt do them, what else did he neglect?

I hope everything works out... if this car bankrupts you, don't blame the car -- and don't start hating audi's. This one may have been neglected more than you thought.

Make sure the timing belt has been changed -- or else your driving around in a time bomb!
