new girl about to buy an a4...

Hey guys,

I just signed up tonight but actually have been browsing this community for about a week now. You have all been so helpful!#$!!! Im about to purchase a 2001 a4 1.8T black on black, and when I went to see it yesterday, the screen between the gauges was alittle messed up. Some of the letters faded out and some werent there. Its not THAT bad, but it would annoy me to no end. I was wondering if anyone had any information on the price of fixing this??

Thanks.

The electronic #'s???
If thats the case, they have probably been tampered with. :(

Negative. This is a commmon problem for the info display on the cluster to fade. They are expensive units, anywhere from several hundred to $1000, depending on where it is purchased. Some people have successfully used a magnet to bring the LCD back to life, but these reports are unconfirmed.

You'd be hard pressed to find an A4 that hasnt had this problem adressed previously.

Good luck.

...... Pretty sure mine, my boss', my cousins & my best mates haven't had this issue. We all have Audi's ranging from 96's to 04's...... but we may be lucky I guess. I wouldn't buy one that has a dodgy display regardless, but mmart may be right. I haven't seen a post about it, but I guess it may be common...ish?

Yeppers, its common. Even if its 1 in 50 cars, it's common... I doubt you have 50 good friends with a4's :)

Let me get this straight, are we talking about the information display in the middle of the gauges?
