H7 for hb, lb and fog. Not sure how that translates into HID #'s though.

Wait a minute, are we talking fake "HID/Xenon" bulbs or the real deal??? If you want the real thing, then there is not really a Plug and play bulb. Factory halogen bulbs are h7's, while the only true xenon bulb that will fit is a Ds2. This website will show you exactly what needs to be done for a conversion. www.oemhid.com

This is the same kit I have and it's awesome. I picked it up off Ebay for ~200 bucks. I wouln't mess around with any of the "xenon bulbs" that cost 10 bucks off ebay or any other source. You'll only get decreased light output and run the risk of melting your headlight housings.

so i've seen a lot of posts and how-to's related to the installation of HID in the last few hours. unfortunately having been through this whole cutting up of the factory lamp thing once before about ten years ago - i can say it looks like a foul procedure i don't care to repeat.

has anyone attempted a clean true-eom install? for instance, the $350 ea headlight assemblies from any-ol audi oem shop?

http://img.overnightautoparts.com/li...0084511OES.JPG

they seem to include a factory fit, water and dust tight seal, and ballast. unclear if they bolt up to the factory harness - that's why i'm asking!

That picture shows a cut up headlight. notice at the second picture, it has a hole at the top. That is the hole you have to cut for the ballast wires. I have the philips and Hella kit, and love it. It's really not a big deal to make it fit.

if you go to www.slyvania.com and go to the automovie section, there is a guide to any car and what all your bulbs are throughout the car... check it out.

“cut up headlight... hole at the top”. what are you smoking? the assembly is upside down in the second picture . the “cut hole” seems to be an environmental mounting spot (with seals) on the bottom of the assembly - perhaps for the oem ballast?

specifically what i'm talking about here is a desire along the lines of the original post in this thread. some people are driving cars without the oem hid option (and if only they had selected the option! or that the original buyer had!). why not take the car and replace the components necessary to make it an oem install - from the oem hid option. this is a hugely different project from hacking things up and using aftermarket parts. regardless of whether or not the specific picture i posed there is real or fake (i believe it real), what's not clear is if additional parts are required. does the oem lamp assembly even fit into non hid oem optioned cars? is the ballast included (tucked into that high voltage pouch in the back - or does it attach on the bottom?) why is the oem hid assembly so expensive if it doesn’t include the oem ballast? would an oem hid conversion require changing out the car's wiring loom for the oem hid version?

i'm asking if anyone has every tried this? it would seem not. to compound this oddity, i find it all very curious that there is a website called www.oemhid.com which doesn't actually discuss performing an oem conversion to the oem hid option!
