Not all dealerships are stealerships...
Mines more of a givership actually.
Well I just got my '01 A4 back from Hoffman Audi of New London (where I've been taking it since I got it), I had the clutch replaced (not the flywheel though), front and rear pads, a balancing and alignment. I was quoted about $2100.00 for just the clutch and pads. I'm picking up the car today and the bill was something like $1375 my jaw just about hit the floor. I'm looking over the invoice while waiting and I notice I got charged $0.00 for labor on the clutch. :-D I didn't say anything at the time of course but I find it hard to believe they'd overlook such a large portion of the income. How's that price sound? Is it really that great or am I just thinking it's amazing because of the $2000+ I was originally quoted?

Here's a ballpark estimate on what I'd expect pay for similar services at a non-dealer...someone jump in and correct me if you think my estimates are way off.
Mount and Balance 4 new tires....$70-ish
Alignment...$70-$80
OEM brake pads....dunno, $130 for the parts, $60 for labor?
That'd be just about $350, minus any work on the clutch. No idea what a clutch costs to replace.
Trust me...the dealer ain't losing money on you

I got a better one. Today I went to Laurel Audi in Westmont Illinois because I had a CEL. It turns out it was a MAF sensor that had to be replaced. They went to the local volkswagen dealership to get it since they did not have any. SInce I had to wait, I was given a voucher for a free lunch at the resaurant next door. Before I left to get lunch I asked for a ballpark on what it would cost, and I was shocked when Joe told me "nothing". So I got a new MAF sensor, a car wash, and lunch all for a 2 dollar tip.
