where do i plug in the ODB 2 reader on an 96 a4 2.8FWD i have to check for codes yummy

right next to the rear ashtray, on the center console, underneath the little flip-up cover

no, there is a flip-up lid for the ashtray, the OBD2 port is right next to it...just open the lid.

it's not on the rear console....it's on the rear of the front center console....next to the ashtray

i dont know the what the flip up thing is lol only thing i know that flips is the arm rest

behind the armrest.....sit in the back seat, and look at the center console in front of you. at the bottom, you'll see a lid, lift it. underneath the lid you're going to find an ashtray, and an OBD2 port.

correct, although it depends what reader you're using...there are many kinds...the one i used required me to put the key in the ignition, then plug in the tool, then turn the car to the on position, and then press the read button on the tool.

Yes you must have the car on or in the acc position to read the codes. I usually just start the car and let it idle.
