RE: Oil change
i get the " high performance filter" from a near by vw dealer. just ask for the larger 1.8t oil filter
since i work at a bmw dealership i use bmw synthetic 5w-30 its the same thing as castrol syntec. |
RE: Oil change
Remove the splash guard or whatever you want to call it. (six screws on the bottom and two in each wheel well)
Remove the drain plug (19mm socket) Take off and replace the copper washer (17mm) Remove the oil filter Coat the rubber seal on the new oil filter with a little oil from the drain pan Install the new oil filter Replace the drain plug (make sure you have a new copper washer on it) Fill with 4 quarts of oil Fire it up and make sure everything is tightened up and not leaking Put the spalsh guard back on Check and make sure your oil level is ok. Open beer and consume. Done |
RE: Oil change
mobil 1, royal purple, & amzoil are prob the best. mobil 1 is probably the best for the money. use 0w-40, that's what audi recommends.

RE: Oil change
Heh, I've only once had an oil change done for me, at a Mr Lube, and it was in my eagle talon... wanted them to check my differential fluid level. As for oil, I just bought a case of royal purple... my buddy can vouch for amzoil... he ran amzoil synthetic for like 25 000 KM without changing it (he plans to dump his car when its out of warranty), and then sent his oil away for analysis... it came back "OK for continued use" Pretty effin crazy eh? Seems criminal to not change your oil every 5 000 km (3500 miles).
But yeah, use synthetic... castrol syntec 5w40 is what audi recommends, but its crazy expensive. I'm running 5w30 royal purple. I found a place in ontario that can get me the castrol dirt cheap, so after this case, I might permanently make the switch to syntec. RE: Oil change
Any synthetic oil that meets ACEA A3 or A5. Weights between 0 and 40.

RE: Oil change
Most importantly... Make sure you start car for a few seconds, after adding first amount of Oil.. this way you have an accurate reading of what your oil level is. A lot of people dont do this out of stupidity, but when you do it, it fills the oil filter up with oil. So you sometimes will need to add more. Best of luck, and remember, almost 90% of engine problems come from lack of lubrication

Go to wally world.
Supply your own filter and walk out for under 30 dollars. Just make sure to give the guy instructions |

I haven't had a problem with them, but then I watch them like a hawk

RE: Oil change
Wal*Mart does mine. $29.70 for Mobil 1 change, I supply the filter.

RE: Oil change
I was changing mine about every 1000mi because I was running to rich and the gas washed down the cyl walls and was getting into the gas thinning it out. Anyways I run mobil1 and mobil1 filter and its about 30 for the oil and a filter and takes about 10 min to change

RE: Oil change
Tell you the truth autocrosser, if you have to ask how to change the oil, maybe you oughta let someone else to do it;)
|
RE: Oil change
Wow that description to do the oil change is exactly what I needed. I have to do my first oil change now, will take it to the dealer since I have no time to do it. I'm sure the first time takes more time than anticipated.

RE: Oil change
If you have a tip, make sure you know which one is your transmission and which is your oil pan, otherwise you will end up draining your transmission.
