Default Oil cooler leak? 83,000 miles... 2.8 30v

So I park my car and in the morning I have a huge puddle of oil under my car... The night before the right side (facing the front of the car) is billowing out smoke and it is almost a quart low on oil...

I get under the car today and see there is oil EVERYWHERE... I take it in, get it cleaned up and it leaks a bit from what looks like a pump up half way up the engine, with two hoses going to a metal cube where the oil filter connects to...

Any ideas?

The oil cooler on that page, is that the lower part by the oil pan, or the part up top? I am sure the part up top is leaking. And, does that come with a gasket?

just above the oil filter in fact the oil filter connects to it and yes there is a seal on the top of it, the lower part seal is the oil filter its self ( is the oil filter tight??)

The filter is on good, that was checked...

It looks like the oil is coming from what looks like a pump or something that is up half way up the motor on the right side. The pump looking object has two hoses that are going down to the metal box between the oil filter and the oil pan.

Is the oil cooler the actual metal box between the filter and the oil pan, or is the oil cooler the thing up top? If not, what is it. It looks as though it is the cause of my oil leak, and I did notice that it will leak more after a good drive and the oil gets up to temp, rather than letting it idle (as though a load on the engine could be upping the oil pressure, causing it to leak more).

It ended up being the cam seals and some chain idler seal, or chain tensioner seal, something like that...
The timing belt tensioner was about to die according to my mechanic, the spark plug tube seal filled up one of the plug tubes so he is putting in new plugs, wires, etc...
Gonna' get a new temp sensor on the back of the head since mine is flaky, and of course all the usual timing belt stuff and a new oil cooler so that my gasket doesnt trip out on me and I am back in the shop...

Gonna' be alot of cash, but hopefully it will run another 80K miles without too many problems...

yeah i have heard that those oil coolers are a high break part. along with the temp sensor in the back
and the flange that the temp sensor goes into. well basically everything on these cars breaks huh?
i take it you arent going to do the work yourself. you should just to save money and learn about
your car. then next time something goes wrong youll be more in tune with whats going on under
the hood.

Right now I do not have the time to do the work myself... Working 10 hours a day and at times five or more days a week sucks up most all of my time, I would like to do the work, it would just take way too long if I did it... I did find a mechanic that is very picky about the work he does, he was reccomended by three people that I know (two of which are VW owners) so I know I can trust him and he will do it right the first time...
