Default Oil Sensor & Bonnet

Hi there,

I have a '03 A4 Saloon. All was fine till last week when the yellow "Check Oil level Sensor" message appeared. Had trouble opening bonnet but finally got it opened. Checked oil level. All fine there.

The warning msg came on again and now I cannot open the bonnet. When I pull the lever in the doorwell it "clicks" it's like its not catching the pully lever for the bonnet. Have tried getting someone to push down on the bonnet while I pull the lever but no joy...

Any help out there ?

P.S. Only had car less than a month so is there a strange nak to open Audi bonnets ???

Cheers

Pull the lever in the doorwell while a 2nd person pulls up on the hood (bonnet). It should pop up 1/2 inch or so. Then move the release lever inside the Audi ring badge on the grille to release the hood (bonnet), and lift it up.

If your oil level sensor is bad, it's on the bottom of the oil pan, easily changed from underneath the car. Check the wires as well, maybe an animal chewed through them.

Thanks.

I have tried this but still cannot open bonnet. When I pull the release lever it just clicks - its like its not making a connection with the release cable at all. Even when a second person pushed up or down on the bonnet.

Do you know where the bonnet switch is ? I have read that by disconnecting the connecter and get a paper clip and bridge the wires together going to the car. this will act as if the bonnet is closed and stop the light from coming on.

Got sorted with the bonnet. Turned out the release catch was loose. All ok there now.

Still have the "Check Oil Sensor" yellow light on though. Checked oil level via dipstick and there is plenty of oil. Above half way. Don't fancy paying an Audi dealer a couple of hundred for this as it's prob something still, any ideas anyone ?

Tried the tip of engine on, open/close bonnet and key out for 60secs... No joy... Any other methods ?

Cheers

Look underneath the car (you may have to remove the plastic belly pan) On the bottom of the engine oil pan, is a sensor with a wire attached. Check the wire to make sure it's attached and not damaged in any way.

If replacing the sensor is out of your realm of mechanical ability, take it to a local shop, not the dealership (unless you're still under warranty).

Cheers, I finally got it sorted. Loose connection to the sump. Thanks for your input.
